BadMouth: A Sonic Experiment That’s Redefining Michigan’s Underground Music Scene
What began in 2020 as a daring sonic experiment, BadMouth was conceived by Gabriel White as an ambitious fusion of music and visual art. Initially focused on cover songs, White enlisted the talents of friends Seth Hottois and Nick Sonnenberg to shape the project’s early sound. However, it wasn’t long before the urge to create original music took hold, prompting Hottois to invite longtime collaborators Matt and Carlee Olenczuk into the fold.
With this new lineup, BadMouth quickly evolved. Their chemistry was palpable, and after Sonnenberg's departure, the band solidified into a powerful four-piece unit. With Hottois’s thunderous drumming, Carlee’s deep, grooving bass lines, Matt’s searing guitar riffs, and White’s piercing vocals, the band forged a sound that was raw, urgent, and distinctly their own. By the time they took the stage at Saginaw’s iconic White’s Bar on September 17, 2021, their presence was undeniable.
That debut marked more than just a performance—it was a turning point. Energized by the crowd's response and the band’s newfound cohesion, BadMouth dove headfirst into Michigan’s local music circuit. From the gritty dive bars of Saginaw to the vibrant clubs of Detroit, their sound resonated, quickly gaining traction across the region. Today, BadMouth isn’t just performing—they’re leaving a lasting impact on Michigan’s underground music scene, one stage at a time.

With the launch of BadMouth, Gabe’s artistic journey took on new dimensions—not only as a musician but as a designer. He conceived the original BadMouth logo and aesthetic, infusing the project with a distinct visual identity that complemented its musical ethos.
Gabe’s artistic output remains as dynamic as ever.
